Infinite Yoga of Alaska officially opened its doors on June 2, 2007 with a Grand Opening which yielded over 50 students to the free yoga classes.
Located in the beautiful facility of the Artisan’s Courtyard on the corner of College Road and Westwood Way, (across the street from the Farmer’s Market), Infinite Yoga is one of the first business to open shop in the facility.
The studio is currently offering sixteen classes a week, at all times of the day, for a very diverse range of students. Classes include early morning 7-8 AM classes, 12-1 lunch time classes, evening classes, classes for families with children, classes for beginners, and more advanced students, and even a Baby and Me class designed for new moms with their infants.
Currently, over 100 students have become members of the studio, which features 7 of Fairbanks’ fine yoga teachers. The studio is organized under a cooperative model, so that teachers and students profit from the studio’s success. Infinite Yoga is also dedicated to supporting the Fairbanks Community, and commits 10% of its profits to local non-profit organizations.
Maya Salganek, a studio co-owner, began the process of setting up the business nearly a year ago, with the help of the UAF Small Business Center. Salganek is teaching at the studio along with Trista Haycraft, Megan Gooding, Laurel Ruth, and Jody Hassel. Each teacher brings a unique style and insight to their yoga classes.
Yoga (Sanskrit for “union”) is an ancient system of movement which incorporates breathing and stretching, and provides an outlet to reduce stress and enhance one’s energy. Over 11 million people worldwide are reported to practice yoga (according to YogaJournal.com), and the numbers are growing as more people discover the benefits for health, happiness, and pain-reduction.
